Welcome to DearStranger! By creating an account or using our platform, you agree to the following terms and conditions. Please also read our Safety Guidelines, which are incorporated into these terms.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use DearStranger. Users must not have been previously banned from the platform, and must comply with all applicable laws in their jurisdiction.
DearStranger connects users with people they don't already know. If you are under 18, please take extra care with the Safety Guidelines - never share your address, school, phone number, or other identifying details, never agree to meet a pen pal in person, and talk to a parent, guardian, or another trusted adult if anything about a conversation makes you uncomfortable.
User Responsibilities
Users are expected to:
- Communicate respectfully and avoid offensive language.
- Provide accurate information during registration.
- Adhere to all applicable laws and our community guidelines.
- Protect their account credentials and notify us of any unauthorized access.
Prohibited Activities
Users must not:
- Engage in harassment, bullying, grooming, or any form of abuse.
- Solicit personal contact information, money, or in-person meetings, especially from or involving a minor.
- Share personal information of others without consent.
- Use the platform for illegal or fraudulent activities.
- Upload malicious software or attempt to compromise the platform's security.
We investigate reports of these behaviors and may suspend or permanently ban accounts that violate this section, in addition to any action required by law.
Content Ownership
Users retain ownership of their content but grant us a non-exclusive license to display, distribute, and promote it on the platform (for example, letters shared to the public Wall of Letters). Users are responsible for ensuring their content does not violate copyright or other laws.
Account Termination & Deletion
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, engage in harmful behavior, or pose a risk to the community. You may also delete your own account at any time from Settings in the app or on the web - see our Privacy Policy for what deletion does.
Modifications
We may update these terms periodically. Users will be notified of significant changes, and continued use of the platform constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
